Wondering how to add that mess of Google Analytics tracking code to your WordPress website? Afraid you may mess it up somewhere along the line? In today’s blog post I’m going to show you how to easily add that tracking code to your WordPress website. You can just forget about that blurb of code that Google told you that you’d need to add, we’re not going to use it.
If you don’t have a Google Analytics account yet you can hop over here and set one up quick: http://www.google.com/analytics/
In this video we’re going to use two plugins, the first one is called Ultimate Google Analytics — This is what allows us to add the code to our WordPress websites in just a couple clicks.
The second plugin we’re going to add is called Google Analytics Dashboard. This plugin adds a widget directly to your WordPress dashboard that will pull in selected stats directly from your analytics account.
Easy as pie.
Now you’re all set, you’ll need to wait about 24-48 hours before you’ll start to see those stats roll in but once they do you’ll have access to the basic ones right in your WordPress admin area.

Melissa, this is awesome! I use a different plugin for adding the analytics code (Google Analytics for WP by Yoast) but it does virtually the same thing. But I am definitely adding the dashboard plug in! Thanks for sharing! I love your video tuts

Thanks, Kimberly. There are a couple different dashboard plugins as well if you want to explore a bit.
I’ve used this one for several years.

Is there a way to watch the video on how to set up Google Analytics while I actually add it. I am having difficulty doing it correctly. I took notes but still am having trouble.
Is there a step by step transcript thats written out someplace that I could follow?
Nancy, is there a particular part you’re feeling hung up on? I can list out the steps here but if you could let me know which part your having trouble with I can make sure I cover it a little better.
